22.1.12

Hey! It's 2012!

So, I haven't posted here in a while.  I don't want to give the illusion that I'm busy, definitely not that I'm too busy to post a blog update.  I guess I've been pretty lazy.  Anyway, here's some updates!

Books:

What have I read since December 14th?  Let's see.. I started a new series by R.D. Wingfield about a sarcastic, witty, no-nonsense British detective (or Inspector).  Character's name is Jack Frost and he's pretty damn entertaining.  There's... 5 books in the series?  I have the second one on deck and Alaina is in possession of the others.

Read Vol. 1 of "Knightfall", the Batman series in which Bane breaks The Dark Knight's spine.  If anything, it has me really excited for The Dark Knight Rises.  Before this, I knew very little about Bane other than that he screamed and smashed stuff.  Did this graphic novel ever shatter that view!  To be fair, I based most of my understanding of Bane on Batman & Robin.  Honestly, you should never base anything on that piece of garbage.

Finished the 9th Scudder book and picked up a new graphic novel series titled, "Freakangels".  Freakangels deals with a group of people all born on the same day and time in jolly ol' England.  While it's not confirmed, it's intimated that they brought about the end of the world.  I was hooked about halfway through the book and realized it may be a while before I can get my hand on the rest.

I just picked up Joe Hill's most recent offering, "Horns".  Despite the fact that Joe is most known for being the offspring of literary God, Stephen King, he's been making waves on his own merits.  I've heard nothing but good things.  I'm about 30-40 pages in and I'm enjoying it.  He's a little more humourous than his Dad (which I'm not sure takes a lot) and is becoming a pretty easy read.

Now.. with the books portion out of the way, let's see what else is going on!

I went home for Christmas and got to hang out with this dude:

Stud Muffin.
I missed him a lot and I totally can't wait to see him again.

I also got to see a hockey game.  I watched my hometown team, The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, defeat the visiting Halifax Mooseheads at Centre 200.  Game was fun, lots of fights and what-not.  Probably the only thing I miss about Sydney (other than friends and family) are the Eagles games.  While Halifax obviously has a team, it's not the same.

Eagles vs. Mooseheads
I also managed to devour one of the unhealthiest creations known to man, the turkey & stuffing poutine from ABC takeout in Glace Bay!

Delicious and deadly
Other stuff:

* I bought tickets to see SModcast 200 @ The Spatz on February 03rd.  I never would have thought a year ago that I'd have had the chance to see Kevin Smith live let alone 3 opportunities in 3 months!?  Craziness.  I may be getting a little greedy but now that we've seen the man himself, had Jay here in December and now Mosier in February.. I want Ralph Garman in attendance!

* Friends threw me a Batman birthday party to celebrate my 28th year of existence!  Nothing like celebrating your 28th year just as you would at age 10!  We watched Batman & Robin, episodes of Batman: The Animated Series, ate pizza and junk AND had a Batman cake made of.. wait for it.. CUPCAKES!
Batman!
* Also, I managed to get a "new" couch!  I now have something to lay on to read that isn't my bed.  I've been looking on Kijiji for a while for something decent and finally came across an affordable giant couch!  Thinking it was going to be an easy en devour, myself and a friend carried it from one area of the city to the other.  It was roughly 4 blocks but it was a heavy sucker.  Then, trying to maneuver it around my apartment building proved difficult - but we got it in.  Some minor interior damage not withstanding.

New couch.
I guess that's it.  This is a rather large blog entry and it took me quite a while.  Maybe I'll start posting more frequently.  Maybe.  Probably.
